Certifications

What we are certified & tested to

Each certification below applies across the Hardy Lighting range — not just selected products. Compliance is designed in from the ground up, not added at the end.

ICAO

International Civil Aviation Organisation

The global standard governing all civil aviation infrastructure including aerodrome lighting, obstacle marking and wind direction indicators. ICAO Annex 14 defines performance requirements for obstruction, helipad and perimeter lights worldwide.

Issuing body

United Nations — International Civil Aviation Organisation

Applies to

CAP 437

UK Civil Aviation Authority — Offshore Helidecks

The United Kingdom CAA standard governing the design, lighting and operation of offshore helidecks on oil and gas platforms, FPSOs and marine vessels. Required for all helideck lighting used on UK and internationally-flagged assets.

Issuing body

UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)

Applies to

ECAS

Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme

UAE regulatory certification confirming that products meet the technical requirements set by the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (ESMA). Required for products sold and installed in the UAE and broader GCC region.

Issuing body

Emirates Authority for Standardisation & Metrology (ESMA), UAE

Applies to

RoHS

Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive

European Union directive restricting the use of specific hazardous materials including lead, mercury, cadmium and other harmful substances in electrical and electronic equipment. Demonstrates environmental responsibility and enables supply into EU-regulated markets.

Issuing body

European Union (EU Directive 2011/65/EU)

Applies to

IP66

Ingress Protection Rating — IEC 60529

IP66 means the product is dust-tight (6) and protected against powerful water jets from any direction (6). This is the industry benchmark for exposed outdoor luminaires in marine, offshore and harsh industrial environments.

Standard

IEC 60529 (International Electrotechnical Commission)

Rating breakdown

Salt Spray

Corrosion Resistance — 240-Hour Test

Products are subjected to a continuous neutral salt fog (5% NaCl) for 240 hours per ASTM B117 / ISO 9227. This confirms long-term corrosion resistance in marine, coastal and offshore environments — critical for helideck and platform installations.

Why it matters

What compliance means for your project

Project & regulatory approval

Aviation authorities, civil aviation departments and project approvers require ICAO and CAP 437 compliance as a condition of installation sign-off. Hardy products arrive pre-certified.

Insurance & liability

Certified lighting reduces insurance risk and limits liability for structure owners. Non-compliant lighting can void aviation insurance policies and delay commissioning.

Long-term reliability

IP66 and 240-hour salt spray testing ensures products perform for years in harsh offshore and industrial environments — reducing replacement costs and maintenance downtime.

Global supply

ECAS, RoHS, ICAO and CAP 437 collectively cover UAE, GCC, EU and international markets — Hardy products can be specified on global projects without re-certification.

Our Process

How every Hardy product is tested

  1. 01

    Engineering design

Compliance requirements are designed in from the start — ICAO, CAP 437, IP and environmental standards shape every product decision before production begins.

  2. 02

    Independent photometric test

Photometric performance (light intensity, distribution, colour) is verified by an independent third-party institution — not self-certified.

  3. 03

    Environmental testing

Products undergo IP66 ingress protection testing and 240-hour neutral salt spray corrosion testing per international standards before approval.

  4. 04

    ECAS & RoHS certification

UAE ECAS and EU RoHS certification are obtained through the relevant regulatory bodies, ensuring compliance for regional and global supply.

Quality control

Tested before it ships

Certification proves the design — but compliance only matters if every unit performs. Beyond type testing, each individual Hardy luminaire passes through unit-level quality control at our assembly facility before dispatch.

01

Device Programming

Each unit is individually programmed and configured to its specified intensity, flash characteristic and operating mode.

02

Functional Testing

Every luminaire is powered up and functionally verified — light output, electronics and controls checked against specification.

03

Bulk Testing

Complete production batches undergo extended burn-in and bulk testing, confirming consistent performance before shipment.
